COMPOSITION
- Boric Acid BP 3 %W/V
- Alcohol BP q.s.
- Sterile aqueous base q.s.
DRUG DESCRIPTION
- Boric acid is an antiseptic agent for external use. This drug is used for a variety of infectious diseases of the ear.
INDICATIONS
The use of boric acid as an antiseptic is shown to etiotrop (destruction of pathogen microorganisms) treatment of various infectious processes of the ear, these include:
- Treat bacterial and fungal infections in the external ear caused by trapped moisture in the ear canal.
- Boric acid creates an acidic environment that is hostile to microbial growth. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria and fungus.
- Treating the infection reduces pain and swelling in the ear.
- This medication also contain drying ingredient alcohol. Drying of the ear canal helps to cure the infection.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION : MECHANISM OF ACTION
Boric acid is a powerful antiseptic. It kills bacteria by various processes of coagulation and denaturation (violation of the tertiary structure of a protein molecule) of the intracellular proteins. Boric acid is active against a variety of bacteria, viruses, fungi and ectoparasites (lice, mites).
The drug is used for external application. AGer application to the mucosa or the skin, it has a pharmacological activity and destroys microorganisms cause infectious diseases. Boric acid may be partially absorbed into the systemic circulation

CONTRA-INDICATIONS
The use of boric acid is contraindicated in various pathological and physiological states of the body, which include:
- Violation of the integrity of the skin or mucous membranes (including the eardrum) in the area of drug application.
- Individual intolerance or hypersensitivity reaction to the boric acid or its auxiliary components of different dosage forms.
- Pregnancy at any stage and breast feeding – since boric acid is absorbed into the systemic circulation from the surface of the skin or mucous membranes, it is possible its negative impact on the developing fetus.
- Violation of the functional activity of the kidneys with the development of their disease.
- Before the start of the drug, make sure there are no contraindications.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
DOSAGE & ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION
As directed by the Physician or The recommended dose is two drops to the affected ear every three – four hours.
SIDE-EFFECTS
Most of the side effects and adverse reactions during the application of boric acid linked to its absorption in the systemic circulation, they include:
- Dyspeptic syndrome (nausea, vomiting, unstable stool, abdominal pain)
- Ear redness.
